A HIATAL HERNIA happens when the upper part of the stomach and LES (lower esophageal sphincter) move above the diaphragm, making it easier for acid to move up into your esophagus, causing you to experience ACID REFLUX. Many women experience this during the last three months of pregnancy with the growth of the Baby pushing up on the mother’s stomach. Smoking makes ACID REFLUX worse and greatly increases the risk of esophageal cancer.
Alcohol, Carbonated Beverages, Chocolate, Citrus Fruits, Coffee/Tea (yes, even Decaf), Fatty or Fried Foods, Tomato Foods, Garlic & Onions, Mint and Spicy Foods. Being overweight is also a cause of ACID REFLUX as is eating a heavy meal and lying down afterwards or snacking close to bedtime.
Aspirin and Ibuprofen are also causes of ACID REFLUX. Perhaps you have been prescribed Pepcid (famotidine) and Tagamet Prilosec, Nexium, Dexilant, or Prevacid? If so, know that these drugs are depleting your magnesium and your calcium levels, to possibly dangerously low levels. They are only treating the symptom, not curing the problem.
Don’t do the things that CAUSE the ACID REFLUX like eating late suppers or lying down after eating... stop eating the foods that contribute to it. If you are a coffee drinker, switch to Dandy Blend (call for free sample).
